About Underpinning.ie

Who runs Underpinning.ie, what happens when you send a request, and where the facts come from.

Who runs it

Underpinning.ie is an introduction service run by Bartlomiej Standa, a sole trader trading as Elevate Ireland.

What this site does

Underpinning.ie explains underpinning and house subsidence in Ireland: the methods, the crack scale engineers use, the process, what's published about cost, how insurance treats it, and how pyrite and defective blocks differ. Every fact links to its source, with the date we checked it.

Who gets your request

One experienced groundworks and underpinning contractor who covers your county. Your details aren't sent to a list of companies. The contractor rings you, asks what's happening and about any engineer's report, and prices the work from the engineer's design. Nothing is booked unless you say yes.

We don't name contractors on the site. Mentioning a company in a guide, as a source, doesn't mean it's the contractor we pass your request to.

What we don't do

We are not engineers. We don't inspect houses, diagnose cracks, give structural advice or do building work, and we never tell anyone their house is safe or unsafe. That is for a chartered structural engineer who has seen the house.

What the quote form does

It asks what's happening, the type of property, the county, whether an engineer has looked at it and when you hope to start. It then shows a sourced next step, usually to get or keep an engineer's assessment. Your name and number go to the contractor so they can ring you.

How we keep the facts right

We only use what a source says on its own page, with its date. Irish sources first; we don't quote UK sterling prices as Irish ones. If something can't be confirmed at its source, we leave it out, which is why the cost guide is short on figures.
